How many times have you left a formal meeting wondering if anything was going to change? It's frustrating how often we get together to solve a problem and nothing gets done. Unfortunately, many approaches to addressing business challenges are misaligned for a variety of reasons—choose your poison. Innovative, game-changing business ideas can be fleeting at times, but that’s the gist of what design thinking helps address.

Design thinking has long been seen as the holy grail of innovation—as well as the antidote to stagnation. It has been credited with amazing accomplishments such as changing Airbnb from a failing startup to a billion-dollar enterprise. It's an idea that's becoming more difficult to dismiss, and yet, despite such high-profile success stories, it remains cloaked in mystery.

Design thinking should be at the centre of strategic development and organisational transformation to create a culture focused on solving challenges. This way of thinking can be applied to products, services, and processes; anything that needs to be improved.

Design Thinking is really old!

Design Thinking is effective because it is not novel. Although Tim Brown and Roger Martin expanded and structured divergent and convergent thinking for business in the early 2000s, divergent and convergent thinking has been at the heart of mathematics, science, and economic theory for hundreds of years. Leonardo da Vinci used rapid prototyping and 'fail fast' in his design process, creating hundreds of sketches and maquettes to test concepts. The same goes for a contemporary application of Design Thinking, jumpstart the process with a massive idea dump. Then you can assess whether they’re viable, feasible and desirable.


Design Thinking fosters better culture!

Design thinking encourages people to be innovative, to express themselves, and to try new things. Nothing is dismissed as impossible or impractical because it is an idea. This novel approach to design aids in the creation of an environment in which employees are fully engaged in the process. In design thinking, there is no hierarchy–everyone can contribute something. Members of the product & design team believe they are valued and have something to offer. It's a good place to work.

Design Thinking delivers better products

In the traditional design process, a team gathers, generates ideas that they believe will work well, prototypes the idea, and then solicits user feedback. But what if their original idea wasn't the best one? Too often, teams realise they've missed the mark after putting in a lot of effort on a single product. This is due to the fact that they place user feedback at the end of the process. From the start, design thinking incorporates user feedback. Team members are encouraged to go out and gather feedback before even starting the brainstorming stage by asking them to empathise with who they're designing for. A simple modification results in better products and a shorter turnaround time.

Design Thinking & it's impact speaks!

Forrester Consulting conducted independent research for IBM in 2018 to determine the economic impact of Design Thinking interventions. Their report discovered the following key benefits: 75% reduced design time, 2x faster time-to-market, 33% reduced development time, and a 300% return on investment. According to Mckinsey's 2018 report ‘the business value of design,' user-centric, design-led companies outperform their competitors by up to two to one.

Module 1: What is Design Thinking?

Idea to Inspire goes through the five phases of design thinking, showing how easily you can create prototypes. We begin with the basic definition of design thinking and explain all the different phases of design thinking. Then we explore inspiring Design Thinking cases and examples.


Module 2: How to use Design Thinking?

Learn by doing! This training module focuses on the problem phase of design thinking. Participants learn what it's like to actively empathise with customers and generate useful insights. The team will learn to master the skills of ideation on the second training day.

Module 3: Experimentation & Prototyping

In this section of our design thinking workshop, we teach you how to construct various experiments to test your solution ideas. We start by emphasising the assumptions that can make or break your idea. Following that, we create a solution experiment with digital experimentation tools and devise a validation strategy.

Module 4: Facilitator workshop

In this section of our workshop, we'll show you how to develop design thinking capabilities within your own company. It is not necessary to have prior knowledge of design thinking. You will learn by doing in this train-the-trainer module! Everything on the agenda for the workshop will be presented/taught by participants, with feedback from the facilitator and the group. Participants will gain facilitation and design thinking skills, as well as the ability to answer key questions.
